2009 MASS INTENTIONS

There are still some weekend and weekday Masses available in 2009 for your personal or family intentions. If there are special dates you desire for deceased family members or friends, or perhaps a Mass for a wedding anniversary, birthday or other remembrance,  please contact the Parish Office at  412-781-0186  (M-F – 10:00-3:00 pm).

2008 DONATIONS

If you wish the Parish to issue a record of your donations for this past year, please write or call the Parish Office and we will send you a complete finance summary of your donations. Thank you for your continuing support of the parish in these difficult financial times. Please remember to make a bequest to our parish in your will.

WEDDINGS FOR 2009

Please remember that diocesan policy requires at least six months notice for marriage preparation before scheduling a Catholic wedding. It is always better to talk to a priest before attempting to find a hall for the reception.

BAPTISMS

There are no baptisms during Lent. So please be aware that February 22nd is the last day for baptisms before Lent begins (Ash Wednesday is February 25th and Easter is April 12th). A preparation for the parents of children who are scheduled to be baptized in the parish will be held on Monday evening, January 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the parish office.

MARCH FOR LIFE

There are seats available on the St. Scholastica bus to Washington, D.C. for the January 22nd MARCH FOR LIFE. The trip is a legitimate excuse for absence from school. Chaperons are provided for high school students. The bus leaves from the Church at 12:15 a.m. We will attend Mass at the MCI Center with Archbishop Wuerl officiating, the Rally on The Mall, the March up Constitution Avenue and finish with a meeting with Senators Casey and Spector. The bus will return to Aspinwall at 11 p.m. The cost is $35, breakfast included. Please call Mary Catherine Scanlon (412-781-6550) for reservations. Sponsorships also available.

RITE OF ACCEPTANCE AND WELCOMING

During the 11 a.m. Mass next Sunday, January 18, we will celebrate a Rite of Acceptance and Welcoming for our RCIA candidates.  Gary Wiant will be entering the order of catechumens as he prepares for baptism, and Heather Marie Fuller, a baptized Christian, is preparing to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church.  During the Rite, Heather and Gary will declare their intention to join the Church, and the parish will welcome them.  Please pray for our candidates, and plan to meet them at the Welcome Breakfast that follows Mass on the 18th.  At the Breakfast, there will also be information available about the various ministries associated with the RCIA.  The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is the process by which adults enter the Catholic Church.  Please stop by and consider whether God is calling you to participate in this wonderful work.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE   by Bud Ozar

What Our Heavenly Father said to Jesus in today's gospel, "You are my beloved. My favor rests on you" is said to each of us. We don't earn this love; it is given freely. The unconditional love we experience in our families is sacramental for it gives us a glimpse of God's freely given, all accepting, love.
