July 12, 2009

This past Tuesday, July 7th, I celebrated my first anniversary being here with you as pastor of St. Scholastica.  All of us know the excitement and anxieties of something new -- think about your first day at kindergarten or leaving home for college or a new job.

I feel very settled now and am at home in our parish community.  I realize that not only I, but you, have made adjustments that come with a new pastor.  I thank you not only for your warm reception when I first came, but also your continuing support and kind words of encouragement.  I look forward to many more years being pastor here (as long as I remain relatively sane and relatively healthy!!!).

These next three to five years will be landmark years to determine the future direction, not only of our parish, but the whole diocese.  Planning and decisions about our future will be made on a regional basis rather than a centralized process.  Starting this fall you will be receiving more information via the "Pittsburgh Catholic" and our parish bulletin.  You will all have a voice in any major decisions that will be made in our parish and region (vicariate).  Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will move gently, yet powerfully, among us that we may come to a new Pentecost in our own time.

 Fr. Ken
