December 6, 2009

Sunday November 29, 2009 Offerings:

Santa's Workshop is open this weekend after all Masses in the Pastoral Center!  Come and shop for family and friends o your Christmas shopping list!  Gift items include beautiful hand-made crafts and store bought items sure to please everyone.  Mrs. Claus's Sweet Shop has many homemade food items perfect for those "hard to buy for" folks!  Please stop by and enjoy hassle-free Christmas shopping in a beautiful setting.  All proceeds benefit Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy.

A preparation session for the parents of children who are scheduled to be baptized in the parish will be held on Monday evening, December 14, at 7:30 in the parish office.  The session will provide parents an opportunity to reflect upon the meaning of the sacrament and to walk through the ceremony itself. If you plan to attend the session on the 14th, please let Andy Bechman know (see the staff contact information in this bulletin).  The next baptism preparation session will take place on January 25, 2010.  Baptisms are normally celebrated on the second and fourth Sundays of each month.  Parents should note, however, that baptisms are not celebrated during Lent.  February 14 is the last day for baptisms before Lent in 2010.  Please make arrangements for the baptism itself with the parish secretary at least two weeks before your desired date.

If you have not sent in your dues for this year, please send $10 cash or check made out to The Aquinas Guild, c/o Patsy Ford, 1003 Elmhurst Rd, Pgh. 15215.  We will be printing a new directory the beginning of the new year and want all members to be included.  If you are not sure if you paid, please call Patsy @ 412-781-5806.

An Adult Christ at Christmas

There are probably no Bible stories more beloved than the ones concerning the birth of Jesus.  Can we preserve the devotion to these stories that began when we were children while approaching them now with an adult understanding?  Join us to consider the Infancy narratives in the Gospels according to Matthew and to Luke from the point of view of modern Scripture scholarship. Approaching these stories as adults, we may find that in them we encounter the adult Jesus.  The same session will be offered in the Pastoral Center at two different times: this Thursday evening, December 10 from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m, or next Thursday morning, December 17, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.  There is no fee or registration.

Was it too hectic to remember to make reservations for the Aquinas Guild Christmas Luncheon this Wednesday, December 9?  If you act today, you can still join us.  Make last-minute reservations by calling Mary Ann Labriola at 412-963-9716 TODAY.  Choose a chicken or fish entrée, each at $25.00. Arrive at the Pittsburgh Field Club for conversation and punch at 11:30, followed by a holiday concert at noon, and lunch at 12:30.  You may also choose to donate a gift for a child from Birthright Pittsburgh (sizes newborn to 12 months). Please mark wrapped gifts with appropriate gender and size.

St. Scholastica's Christmas Gift Project to benefit children and families in our area and students in Haiti and Kenya is underway.  Remember to attach the tag you selected to the wrapped gift you are returning.  All gifts and donation envelopes should be returned during mass the weekend of December 12th.  If you are unable to present gifts on the altar during mass please return the gifts at your convenience to the table set up in the hallway leading to the pastoral center.  Any questions please contact Betsy Henry at 412-968-0330 or Paula Wight at 412-968-1029.

Thanks to all who participated in last Sunday's Blood Drive.  26 pints of blood were donated.  God bless all donors and those whose lives will be changed by your generosity.

                                       HAITI COMMITTEE MEETING

The Hope for Haiti Committee will meet this month on Wednesday, Dec. 9th  7:30 pm in the Pastoral Center.  We will be discussing some new projects for the New Year.  All are welcome to participate.  Please contact Maureen O'Brien at for more information.
