PARISH APPRECIATION BRUNCH

Save the Date, Sunday, April 18th.  The Annual Appreciation Brunch held to honor our parish volunteers and staff is scheduled for Sunday, April 18th at 12:30 at the Pittsburgh Field Club.  Invitations were mailed this week,  if you did not receive an invitation and you are currently serving as a parish volunteer high school age or older, call Mary Ellen Maher at 412-767-5863 for an invitation.

 

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

There will be a meeting for all teens who are interested in helping with vacation bible school Monday, April 19th at 7:30 in the ministry center.

 

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Religious Education will conclude our catechetical year on Tuesday, April 20th with our guest speaker former University of Buffalo quarterback Fr. Joe Freedy.  This will be a snow make up day for the Sunday students.

 

YOUTH MINISTRY

Youth Ministry 4th annual 5k family fun run/walk Saturday, April 24 @at Hartwood Acres. Start time is 10:00 am.

TELEVISED MASS

The Diocese of Pittsburgh has been informed by WPXI TV that they will discontinue the Sunday Mass at 6:00am on Channel 11.  WPXI TV will now air the Sunday Mass at 6:00am on Pittsburgh Cable News Channel (PCNC) and the Retro TV Network (RTV).  PCNC is available on channel 35 on Comcast and channel 9 on Verizon.  RTV is on Channel 207 on Comcast and channel 462 on Verizon.  This change will begin on April 11, 2010.

People Concerned for the Unborn Child Educational Conference is April 17, at the Pittsburgh Oratory in Oakland, 8:30am to 3pm. AQUINAS GUILD

"St. Thomas Aquinas in the 21st. Century" will be the topic of this month's meeting of the Aquinas Guild.  Dr. Daniel P. Scheid, a professor of Theology at Duquesne University, will meet with us this Wednesday, April 14.  Join us at 10:00 am in the Parish Hall to learn more about the patron saint of our parish guild.

 

SPECIAL PARISH EVENT

The Aquinas Guild will be celebrating 70 years of service to St. Scholastica Parish with a special luncheon at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association in Oakland on Wednesday, May 5th. Our honored guest will be Most Reverend David A. Zubik, D.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The luncheon will start at 12 noon. Cost will be $25 per person. Next Sunday's bulletin will provide additional details concerning the luncheon and information on making a reservation.  All parishioners are most welcome to join Guild members in celebration and to honor our special guest.

CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME

Congratulations to Lauren Gagliardino and to Heather Underwood who have completed their initiation as Catholics through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).  Already baptized, Heather and Lauren were confirmed and received the Eucharist for the first time at the Easter Vigil. St. Joseph Parish has Sat. reconciliation from 3:30-4:00.

Madonna of Jerusalem has reconciliation on Wednesday evening from 5:30-6:45 and Saturday from 3:00-4:00 p.m.
