WEB ALERT! NEW SITE OPEN
Try out the newly rebuilt St. Scholastica Parish website at
http://www.saintscholastica.com/.  The site contains basic information about the parish, as well as a number of features that we hope you find useful.  You can now sign your children up for religious education classes online, contact parish groups in order to participate in their activities, and inform the parish of the needs
of parishioners who are newly shut-in or are in the hospital.  We encourage you to explore the site, and please notify us through the "feedback" link if you encounter any problems.

MINISTRY OF PRAISE
In preparation for a new Ministry of Praise prayer list, please put prayer requests in the boxes in the vestibule of the church or call Mary Catherine at 412-781-6550 or email scanlonk@juno.com.

PARISH OFFICE CHRISTMAS HOURS
The Parish Office will be closed December 23rd—December 31st.  We will reopen Monday, January 3rd.

GREETING OF PEACE
Traditionally we all know that during the Greeting of Peace we turn to one and other and shake hands.  Given the flu season, the acceptable alternative would be a nod of the head and a smile.

YOUTH MINISTRY
We are celebrating!  Our youth ministry program is celebrating 15 years of success!  On January 8th we will begin the day with ice skating at PPG from 11-1.  RSVP by Jan. 3.  The next event  that day will be Youth Mass at 5:00pm followed by a party in Pastoral center. We will have 15 years worth of pictures!  A NHL Penguin Jersey raffle, a service project, Rock Band 3, Pizza and of course, birthday cake!   We extend a special invitation to our young adults who participated in youth ministry during their high school years.  Call
the youth ministry office if you would like more information.

CDTCA 2011 LOTTERY CALENDARS
CDTCA 2011 Lottery Calendars are now available. They can be found in the back of church or in the school office.  The price is still $25 to play your number all year for the evening drawing.  Please call the office (412)781-7927 or Anne Cooper (412)782-5892 with any questions. Calendars make great gifts!

REFLECTING ON THE WORD
Taken from: LIVING THE WORD, Scripture Reflections and Commentaries for Sundays
and Holy Days, Dennis Sylva and James Wallace.

This is the only episode we have about Jesus between the time of his infancy and his baptism in the Jordan as an adult.  One might smile at its confirmation that even having the Son of God as an adolescent was no easy
thing.  But this is more than a story that includes a rare moment of tension within the Holy Family.  If he grew in wisdom and grace, I like to think that there were at least several moments when Mary called out the window, "Didn't I tell you not to…" Nor is it simply a tale reflecting how the young Jesus sometimes had to navigate conflicting loyalties: obedience to his earthly parents versus the call of his heavenly Father.

Luke reminds us twice in his Gospel that "Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and favor before God and man" (Luke 2:52; see also 2:40).  Here he provides us with a story showing Jesus as he grows in wisdom, coming to recognize whose Son he is and what that means: an intense relationship with his Father and all that
belongs to and concerns his Father.  Here we see him as one "filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him" (2:40).

Perhaps some consolation can be found in realizing that even living in the presence of the Son of God did not remove all anxieties, even for his parents.  However, what continued to hold this family together was their mutual desire to do God's will, along with a willingness to ponder, as Mary did time and time again, what exactly all this might mean, trusting in God all the while.

CHRISTMAS GREETING
This Christmas I want to extend Christmas greetings and God's blessings to all of you and your families.  I give thanks for being Pastor here at St. Scholastica's for these past two and a half years.  I am especially thankful for the committed and dedicated professional staff and administrative staff of the parish. But we all know that the key to the vitality of the parish are you, the parishioners.  Many of you are second or third generation parishioners of "St. Scho's", others have joined us recently.  I want to express my thanks to you for your commitment to be active and dedicated Catholics.  In a special way I acknowledge the gifts and dedication of so many who are involved in the Liturgical Ministries, Pastoral Council, Finance Committee and the other pastoral activities of the parish.  May the celebration of the birth of Jesus be the moment for us to be rededicated to be Disciples of Christ and faith filled members of his church.  May the Lord Jesus be our peace and joy.  Fr. Ken
