REFLECTING ON THE WORD
It is easy to feel superior to Thomas until you realize that he represents just about every person who has ever paused a moment to ask him or herself; do I really believe?  Do I still believe as I used to?  And some combination of your heart and mind responds: I'm not sure.  Be assured, this is not the end of the world.

Thomas stood there and told the rest of the apostles, "I don't, won't, can't accept this wild tale you are telling me".  When Jesus appeared again, he didn't yell or get all bent out of shape about Thomas' doubts.  He invited Thomas to touch his wounds and then asked him to believe (perhaps indicating that even touching the wounds might not be enough).  Then he had a word for all others who would be disciples in the future: "Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed" (John 20:29).

Everyone since that select group in the beginning has come to believe on the strength of another's word.  Perhaps it was a parent or friend or teacher or some religious figure.  Perhaps it was a book, a movie, or even a television show.  Sometimes the invitation to believe comes out of the blue-a soul-shattering event, an unexpected experience; sometimes, from within-an inner restlessness, a seeking after answers to life's questions.  But when the invitation to believe comes, it calls for a leap.  It comes down to an act of trust in the word of another, ultimately in the word of God.

LIFE LINE SCREENING
Have you suffered a broken bone in your hip or spine?  Do you feel as if you are getting shorter?  If you answer "yes" to either of these questions, you may want to consider being screened for the risk of osteoporosis.  We are please to offer a Life Line Screening preventive health event that can be used to detect just such a risk.  Life Line Screening uses a quantitative ultrasound bone densitometer, using the heel as a measurement site, to assess one's risk of osteoporosis.  This screening compares your bone density to that of the average 20-year old adult female, according to World Health Organization guidelines.  The osteoporosis screening is not only for women.  Of the 10 million Americans who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, 2 million are men.  The screening will take place on Friday, May 6, 2011at St. Scholastica.  Register for the Stroke, Vascular Disease and Heart Rhythm Package for $139.  All four ultrasound screenings take 60-90 minuets to complete.   Call 1-888-653-6441 to pre-register.

EASTER BLESSING OF THE FAMILIES

THE PASSION ACCOUNTS AND JUDAISM
On Palm Sunday and Good Friday this year, we hear the Passion accounts of Matthew and John.  As it happens, these two Gospels contain passages that seem to blame the Jews for the death of Jesus.  Why do these two Gospels speak in this way?  There is a handout available at the entrances of the church (and on the Adult Faith Formation page of our website) that looks for an answer to that question in the histories of the Gospels themselves and that explains why we do not need to share the attitude that these accounts take toward Judaism and the Jews.

BAPTISMAL PREPARATION
A preparation session for the parents of children who are scheduled to be baptized in the parish will be held on Monday evening, April 18, at 7:30 in the parish office. The session will provide parents an opportunity to reflect upon the meaning of the sacrament and to walk through the ceremony itself.  If you plan to attend the session and you have not already been in communication with Andy Bechman, please contact him (see the staff contact information in this bulletin).  Please make arrangements for the baptism itself with the parish secretary at least two weeks before your desired date.

PARISH SHARE
One important part of Lent is our Parish Share Campaign.  You recall that we are assessed $74,000 that we owe the diocese.  Our diocese receives 66% of its income from Parish Share.  I am requesting that you make a pledge of $25.00 a month for ten months for a total of a $250.00 pledge.  This is in reach of most of our families. Please do your fair share in support of our parish/diocese. Thank you.  Fr. Ken

SPRING = GOLF SEASON
Our annual golf outing to benefit our parish school will be Monday, May 23rd at Fox Chapel Golf Club.  Your support is needed.  For more information on playing or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Kelly DiNatale at (412) 779-5328 or Paul Giuffre at (412) 963-6238. Information is also available on the school website, www.cdtca.org. Just click on the golf outing link.

PARISH OFFICE
The Parish Office will be closed April 15th-24th.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Stations of the Cross are on Friday evenings in Lent at 7:00pm (no Stations on Good Friday evening).

AQUINAS GUILD MEETING
The next Aquinas Guild meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 12th at 10:00 am in the Pastoral Center.  Parishioner, Ursula Meyer, will share her talents with us as she demonstrates the art of jewelry making.  Participants will create a jewelry item.  The fee to participate is $10 payable to the "Aquinas Guild."  Please mail to: Mary Ellen Maher, 21 Pintail Dr, Pittsburgh, 15238.  Kindly RSVP by Saturday, April 9th.

PLEASE BE AWARE...
At the 9:00AM Sunday morning mass we have child care in the Pastoral Center.  We also have a "Cry Room" which can be accessed at the exit near the organ.  Please remember that the Cry Room is part of the church and children should be aware of that and should be properly supervised by their parents.  We also have special transmitters for those who have hearing problems- just go to the sacristy before Mass for the transmitter and ear piece.  Also, we have special hosts for those who have wheat allergies.  Please check in the sacristy before Mass to see the priest if this is an issue for you.

PASTORAL PLAN
Within the past few years every parish in the Diocese has been asked to develop a pastoral plan.  This plan needs to articulate the mission and vision of our parish as we assess the current state of parish life, and establish a long range plan over the next 3-5 years for the parish.  We began this process with the establishment of our Pastoral Council who through their leadership role are working together with Fr. Ken to develop the mission and vision for our parish.  They have started the initial phase of the planning process by gathering parish data and important statistics about the pastoral life of the parish.  Their next phase of this process is to share the results of the research they have conducted on the parish, and most importantly, to begin discussions with all of you to better understand your needs and how we can fulfill those needs on the areas of pastoral life.  We need your input and as we take our planning process to the next level.
Over the next few weeks the Pastoral Council will conduct focus group sessions with various parish groups and also during the weekend of May 21st and 22ndafter each of the Masses.  We are personally inviting you to attend and to share with us your thoughts and concerns about parish life and what is most important to you as a member of the parish.  Developing the pastoral plan requires your input and is a collaborative process.  We cannot do this without your help and our goal is to make our parish a vital and vibrant parish within the community.
