LIFE LINE SCREENING
Have you suffered a broken bone in your hip or spine?  Do you feel as if you are getting shorter?  If you answer "yes" to either of these questions, you may want to consider being screened for the risk of osteoporosis.  We are please to offer a Life Line Screening preventive health event that can be used to detect just such a risk.  Life Line Screening uses a quantitative ultrasound bone densitometer, using the heel as a measurement site, to assess one's risk of osteoporosis.  This screening compares your bone density to that of the average 20-year old adult female, according to World Health Organization guidelines.  The osteoporosis screening is not only for women.  Of the 10 million Americans who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, 2 million are men.  The screening will take place on Friday, May 6, 2011at St. Scholastica.  Register for the Stroke, Vascular Disease and Heart Rhythm Package for $139.  All four ultrasound screenings take 60-90 minuets to complete.   Call 1-888-653-6441 to pre-register.

EASTER BLESSING OF THE FAMILIES
On Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, Bishops David Zubik and William Winter and Bishop-elect William Waltersheid will welcome families of the Diocese to their Annual Blessing of Families at St. Paul Cathedral, Oakland beginning at 2:00pm.  As they greet and bless your family personally, they affirm and support you as a household of love and witnesses to your faith.  Come and experience the Bishops' expression of appreciation for the gift that you are and the gifts that you bring to our Diocese.  Each family attending will receive a special memento to take home and the children will receive a sweet treat.

THE PASSION ACCOUNTS AND JUDAISM
On Palm Sunday and Good Friday this year, we hear the Passion accounts of Matthew and John.  As it happens, these two Gospels contain passages that seem to blame the Jews for the death of Jesus.  Why do these two Gospels speak in this way?  There is a handout available at the entrances of the church (and on the Adult Faith Formation page of our website) that looks for an answer to that question in the histories of the Gospels themselves and that explains why we do not need to share the attitude that these accounts take toward Judaism and the Jews.
