THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT                                                                                                      DECEMBER 11, 2011

Christmas Eve Masses: 4:00pm, 7:00pm and 10:00pm  (no midnight Mass)
Christmas Day Mass is at 10:00am.
Please Note:
The Christmas Eve 4:00 Mass is the "Children's Mass"! Needless to say it is wonderful on one hand, and noisy and chaotic on the other. If you have no young children, you would be well advised not to attend this Mass. The 7:00 pm Christmas Eve Mass is filled with some folks standing. The 10:00 pm Christmas Eve Mass is filled, but with extra seating available. The Christmas Day 10:00 am Mass is a great time to come to Mass for Christmas: it is not too early and there is room for all to be seated. Think about changing your routine at Christmas and coming to the Christmas Day Mass. Fr. Ken

If you are looking for a daily prayer book which includes the daily Mass readings, then I recommend Magnificat. This monthly issued prayer book also contains morning and evening prayer, as well as daily reflections. The large print edition (we all need that!) is $64.95 for the year which includes one issue per month and a special issue for Holy Week. Subscriptions: Magnificat, PO Box 822, Yonkers, NY 10702, or call 1-866-273-5215, or visit  Fr. Ken

There is a Penance Service with Confessions on Tuesday evening, December 13, at 7:00 at Madonna in Sharpsburg.  Later Penance Services will take place on Monday, December 19, at 7:00 pm at the St. Edward worship site in Blawnox, and on Wednesday, December 21, at 7:30 pm at St. Joseph in O'Hara Township.

All Christmas gift donations including tuition/donation envelopes for children of Haiti and Kenya are due this weekend.  Please join us today after mass as we carry the gifts from the altar to the rectory, where the gifts will be sorted for delivery.
Coffee/Doughnut House today after the 9:00am mass. Please stop for a couple of minutes and join us for coffee, doughnuts and fellowship in the Pastoral Center.

Our call to stewardship includes all of the ways in which we receive God's gifts with gratitude, cultivate them, and share them with others. Find more news in the online version of Stewardship Corner at our parish website: Look for "Stewardship Corner" in the Quick Links.
Help Needed!
Next weekend we are collecting dried beans for the food pantry at East End Cooperative Ministry in East Liberty. Please place donations in the food bin in the vestibule of the church. Thank you!
Good News!
For a dozen of our teens, "Cyber Monday" was a day to shop till you drop for the poor and homeless. Using their own resources, the teens purchased many gifts ranging from footballs to baby dolls and purses.
On December 3, more than thirty of our middle school and high school young people sang carols at the VA Hospital.
Focus On . . .The Welcome Committee
The purpose of the Welcome Committee is to reach out to new parish members and encourage them to take an active role in the parish. Welcome receptions for new parishioners are held throughout the year. The Committee also corresponds with and provides information about St. Scholastica Parish to the new parishioners. If you are interested in our work, please contact Mary Scanlon at:

This year the March For Life will be on Monday, January 23, in Washington, D.C.  There will be a bus leaving from St. Scholastica Church going to the March For Life. We have been blessed to obtain tickets for the morning Youth Rally and Mass in Washington. Chaperones will be provided for students. The Mass is usually concelebrated by Cardinal Wuerl, the Papal Nuncio, and several hundred priests. We will join the March directly after the Mass. For more information please call Mary Catherine Scanlon at 412-781-6550.

Christmas cards are available.  A set consists of 10 cards for $6.  Your purchase helps the Pro Life cause.  Call Mary Catherine Scanlon at 412-781-6550.
