ADVENT CONFESSION SCHEDULE
Advent is the season to "prepare the way for the Lord"! When was the last time YOU made a good confession?? This is the season to do so and now is the time! This Monday, December 10th, there will be a Penance Service and confessions here at St. Scholastica at 7:00 pm. On Tuesday, December 11th, confessions are at Madonna (St. Juan Diego Parish) at 7:00 pm. This Wednesday at 7:30 pm there are confessions at St. Joseph Parish, O'Hara. Confessions are also scheduled here on Saturday at 9:30 am. Prepare the way for the Lord!

REDISCOVER CATHOLICISM
We have ordered 700 copies of the book: Rediscover Catholicism: a Spiritual Guide to Living with Passion and Purpose, by Matthew Kelly. These books are available free of charge in the vestibule of the church. My thanks to the Aquinas Guild for sponsoring this outreach. Many Catholics are disillusioned and question their faith. Many others have walked away from the Church and the Sacraments because of scandals in the Church or doubts about the relevance of Catholicism in the modern world. Many others are adrift without ever having had the benefit of a solid grounding in their Catholic Faith.
Matthew Kelly in this book deals with important life questions: Are you happy? Are you living an authentic life? How would you like your life to change? What is God's dream for your life? Why have so many people rejected Catholicism? Is Jesus still relevant?
Please feel free to take a book home with you to deepen your Catholic Faith. If there is someone you know who has not been active in their Catholic Faith, give them this book and encourage them to read it! We are reaching out to those who are not engaged in their faith. You know who they are because they are family members and good friends. Give them this book before Christmas so they can take a second look at their faith. Advent and Christmas is about new beginnings and new birth. Invite someone you know to read this book and Come Home for Christmas.

BLOOD DRIVE
There will be a Blood Drive at St. Scholastica Church on Sunday, January 6th, 8 am to 1 pm. Our usual Thanksgiving Blood Drive was moved to this date due to the heavy need for blood around holiday time. Giving blood takes about an hour and donated blood saves lives. Please call Mary Catherine Scanlon at 412-781-6550 to reserve a time.

MARCH FOR LIFE
There will be a bus to the March For Life, Friday, January 25th, leaving from St. Scholastica at midnight. We have tickets for the Washington Diocesan Youth Rally at the Verizon Center Friday morning. After the Youth Rally we will join the March For Life Rally and march up to the Supreme Court. There will be time to visit our legislators before we leave Washington at 5 pm. To reserve a seat/more information, please call Mary Catherine Scanlon at 412-781-6550. A bus ticket is $25, students $20.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER
Our call to stewardship includes all of the ways in which we receive God's gifts with gratitude, cultivate them, and share them with others.
Help Needed!
      · Nancy Heil's ministry is in urgent need of large, warm, men's winter gloves. Nancy says: "Gloves, gloves, and more gloves!"
      · You may have read about Navada Pociernicki's work making clothes for needy children in the Nov. 23 Pittsburgh Catholic. Nancy is also requesting fabrics for Navada's work. Please donate the following kinds of fabric: cotton prints suitable for children, cotton T-shirt knit, flannel prints suitable for children, and denim. Navada will in turn donate some of the clothing she makes to Nancy's Christmas gift drive. Gloves and fabric may be left in the usual donation area in the back of the church.
      · It is not too late to donate to Nancy's Christmas giving program. [Note: this is different than our parish Sharing Tree.] The program accepts any NEW items that would make good Christmas gifts—clothing, jewelry, toys, purses, socks and similar items. Please, only NEW items, and please leave the store tags attached. These gifts are not only for homeless people, but for many needy families as well. In particular, Nancy is requesting purses and jewelry for young teen girls, basketballs or other gifts for teen boys, and toys for children of all ages. Please leave these items as soon as possible.
Focus on . . . the Finance Committee
The members of the Finance Committee are men and women of the parish who are invited to work with the pastor in developing annual parish budgets. They also advise him on the temporal affairs of the parish. If you wish to communicate with the committee, please send an email message to: financecommittee@saintscholastica.com.

CHRISTMAS SHARING TREE
A reminder that all gifts and money donations are to be returned this weekend, December 8th-9th.  Gifts and donations should be brought to the altar after the homily at each Mass. Please securely attach the tag you selected to the outside of your wrapped gift. Thank you for participating in this wonderful way to "prepare the way for the Lord". ~ Fr. Ken

ICE SKATING
Youth ministry is going ice-skating at PPG on Saturday, December 15th, from 2:00 pm-5:00 pm. Please contact Jimmy Dillon if you are interested.

CHRISTMAS CARDS
There are still some Christmas Cards for sale, $6 for a set of 10 cards. Your purchase helps advance the Culture of Life. Call Mary Catherine Scanlon at 412-781-6550 or any member of the Respect Life Committee.

SAVE TIME AND DONATE ONLINE!
Our parish now uses an Online Giving system called WeShare. This will allow you to make your donations without writing a check each week. You can set up a recurring weekly or monthly payment, allocate different amounts for our different collections, and view complete, accurate financial records at any time. It saves all of us time and is a win-win for our parish!
Those who wish to continue to use traditional methods of offering may do so, however, we ask that you prayerfully consider Online Giving. If you would like to enroll, please visit https://saintscholastica.weshareonline.org/ or visit our website and click the Donate button in the "Ways to Help" box on the home page. When you reach the St. Scholastica Online Giving page, click "Sign Up" in the upper right hand corner of the window. You can then set up a one-time or recurring donation by clicking one of the donation options on the page.
Making a donation online automatically enters your name and email address in our new online parish directory. If you have any questions about the program or about setting up your account, don't hesitate to call our parish office at 412-781-0186, Ext. 24.

KNOW YOUR PASTORAL COUNCIL
The St. Scholastica Pastoral Council would like the members of the parish to be aware of the Council, what it is doing, and who its members are. We will be publishing brief biographies of the Pastoral Council members over the next several weeks. In addition, you can look at the slideshow on the message screen in the back of the church to see a picture of the "Council member of the week" so that you can put a face together with the information here. Please feel free to approach Pastoral Council members with your hopes and concerns for our parish.
Thomas M. Pohl
Tom grew up in Fox Chapel and was a member of the parish throughout his childhood. He began serving on the Pastoral Council in 2010. He is a graduate of Shady Side Academy (1996), Princeton University (2000), and Notre Dame Law School (2008). From 2000 to 2005 he served on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, followed by five additional years in the reserves. In 2009 Tom and his family returned to the Fox Chapel area, where he is now a lawyer in the Pittsburgh office of Reed Smith LLP. Tom is delighted to be back in the parish and to serve as a member of the Pastoral Council. You can contact him at: tompohl@saintscholastica.com.
