FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF MARY
      This year the Feast of the Immaculate Conception will be celebrated on Monday, December 9.  It is not a Holy Day of Obligation this year.  We have one scheduled Mass at 8:30 am.

CHRISTMAS SHARING TREE
      Please remember to return the envelopes or wrapped presents (with the tag on the outside) this weekend of December 7 and 8.  Thank you for being God's kindly light in the dark and challenging world!

WOMEN OF THE PARISH . . .
      Women of the Parish, please plan to bake extra Christmas cookies!  As part of our December outreach we will be collecting homemade cookies in the Pastoral Center on December 15 between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm.
      The cookies will be supplied to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Sharpsburg.  We're serving over 130 families so please be generous.  Please use disposable containers.  Thank you very much!

THE LIGHTS ARE ON FOR YOU
      This Wednesday, December 11, each of the 210 parishes of the diocese will offer an opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm.  This is the moment for you to make a good confession and prepare your heart for the Christmas Mass.  Confessions will be here at St. Scholastica this Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm.  Prepare the way for the coming of the Lord!!

ADULT VOLLEYBALL
      Anyone interested in playing adult co-ed volleyball, meet at the school gym at 7:00 pm this Sunday.  Call Sissy at 412-916-4924 for details.

CHRISTIAN MEDITATION
      "Christian meditation helps me rest in God," one participant says.  "Having it on my schedule on a weekly basis helps me create space and time to foster a relationship with the source of our lives.  It helps to bring about a new perspective on my life."
      During Advent, we open ourselves to the coming of Jesus.  Christian meditation is one of the most direct ways to do this.
      We meet at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday mornings in Marsico Library in the Ministry Center.  After a brief time to gather, we meditate in silence for twenty minutes.  When the meditation time has ended, those who need to leave may do so and those who wish to stay can discuss our experience with an eye to helping each other develop our practice. We end by 8:00.
      Please consider making Christian meditation part of your Advent practice!

CHRISTMAS MASS SCHEDULE
      Christmas Eve Masses: 4:00, 7:00 and 10:00 (there is no Midnight Mass); One Christmas Day Mass at 10:00 am.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER
God loves us. May we discover the beauty of loving and being loved.                                                                   --Pope Francis
Good News!
      Nancy Heil coordinates an extensive Christian service effort for people and families who are poor or homeless.  She reports that she and her coworkers were able to give 70 turkey dinners to poor families at Thanksgiving.  Thanks to all who contributed to these meals!

Help Needed!
      Nancy requests donations of:
      · men's winter gloves.  This is an urgent need; please donate gloves as soon as possible! "We have had people lose fingers and toes to frostbite," Nancy says.
      · blankets and comforters of all kinds.  This is another urgent need.  108 blankets or sleeping bags were given away last Monday. If you have no more to donate, please ask friends or family members whether they can help.
      · sleeping bags and backpacks;
      · McDonald's gift cards;
      · Port Authority ConnectCards.  Please have only $2.50 of value loaded onto each card. The cards are available at Giant Eagle;
      · artificial Christmas trees of any size (please inform Andy Bechman if you have one of these to donate).
      Food items that are needed include:
      · macaroni and cheese;
      · cooked hams of any type.  Please drop hams off to the large refrigerator in the kitchen area of the Pastoral Center by Dec. 12.
      Thank you for your generosity!
      N.B.  Because of limitations in volunteer staffing over the holidays, Nancy asks that we leave no material donations of food, clothing, or similar items after December 12 until further notice after the holidays.  She will still be able to accept McDonald's and Port Authority cards.

GREET THE GREETERS!
      Have you been greeted at church by a parishioner with a nametag the last couple of weekends?  As part of a plan to highlight the importance of practicing hospitality, the members of our parish Pastoral Council have been greeting people as they enter for Mass.  So say "hi" to the greeters and let's come together for worship with a good feeling of community!

PET THERAPY
      Pet Therapy at the VA Hospital on Tuesday, December 10 from 4:00 pm-5:00 pm.  Contact Jamie Dillon if you are interested.

God bless you.

PRAYER FOR LIGHTING AN ADVENT WREATH
Lord our God,
we praise you for your Son, Jesus Christ:
he is Emmanuel, the hope of the peoples,
he is the wisdom that teaches and guides us,
he is the Savior of every nation.
Lord God,
let your blessing come upon us
as we light the candles of this wreath.
May the wreath and its light
be a sign of Christ's promise to bring us salvation.
May he come quickly and not delay.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
