A NOTE FROM FATHER TORQUATO
Chances are that if you're reading this note (and especially if you're reading this while sitting in church — but not during my homily), you're already close to Jesus and walking with the Lord in your life. It is very good and important that we place our faith in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. It is also very good and important that we spend time with the Lord in our personal prayer and in our Sunday worship!
Yet it's also very important that we get into the game as well and not simply participate in our seats! While gathering here at church for our worship and giving time to prayer each day is very significant and meaningful, we are all called to take up our mission and our work in service to Jesus and to the Kingdom of God!
Thankfully many in our parish community have done much for God in your lives — especially in handing on the gift of life and the Catholic faith to your children and grandchildren. May all of us continue to answer the Lord's call to serve the Kingdom. May we fulfill the divine mission and service to which Jesus calls all of us who remain his loyal disciples and servants. God bless!
                                                        —Father Jim Torquato

THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!
Every Sunday, we give thanks to God in the Eucharist. Likewise, we offer our gratitude to the Lord in our daily prayers. It is fitting also to give thanks to you, our participating and supporting members and families, for all that you do for the benefit of our parish community and our parish operations. Thank you all very much!
Your participation and your support allow us: to exist as a parish community; to welcome new members and families into the People of God; to celebrate and share our Catholic faith with one another and future generations; to maintain our regional Catholic school; to provide ministries and outreach; and to remain a strong presence of the Lord and of the Church in the communities that comprise our parish. May God bless you for your participation and your support now and in the years ahead. Thank you very much!

THIS WEEK'S SPECIAL COLLECTION
This weekend, September 20-21, Bishop David Zubik and all bishops of the United States are asking every parish community in our country to take up a special collection to be sent to Catholic Relief Services for the benefit of Catholic refugees and all refugees in the Middle East.
Because hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children have lost their lives in recent years and because seven million have lost their homes due to the warfare and violence in that region, Pope Francis is calling upon the entire Church to come quickly to their aid.
As requested by Bishop Zubik, a second collection will be taken up at all the Liturgies this weekend. Your donations will be sent to the Diocese which will then send all funds to Catholic Relief Services. Thank you very much for your compassion and generosity!

A SPECIAL AQUINAS GUILD EVENING
This Tuesday evening, September 23, at 7:00 pm, our Aquinas Guild invites all women of the parish to gather for their first meeting . In addition, a presentation and discussion by Father Bob Duch will be offered. The topic will be Father Duch's new book "God, What do You Think of Me?" You don't need to reply or even read Father's book. Simply come for a special evening with the Aquinas Guild and with Father Bob Duch.

LIFE ETERNAL BIBLE STUDY
The Biblical promise of Eternal Life appears late in the Scriptures, but it blossoms into fullness with the Resurrection of Christ. Explore the growing hope of those who have called upon the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the past as well as the crystallization of our hope for Eternal
Life in the victory of Christ over death.
This Bible Study will be offered on seven Thursday mornings from 10:00-11:30 am from October 9 to November 20. We will meet in the Marsico Library of the parish Ministry Center, and we'll use materials from the Little Rock Scripture Study. There is a fee of $20 for materials, payable at the first session. For more information, or to register, see the flyer at the church entrances.  You may also contact Andy Bechman at 412-781-0186, ext. 18 OR by email here. Be sure to register by September 29 to receive your materials at the first session.  Previous participants have written that these Bible Study sessions are an excellent way to learn about the Bible and how it informs the faith of all who study it together!
