A NOTE FROM FATHER TORQUATO
Best wishes to you and your family and your relatives and friends for a joyful celebration of Epiphany and a good final week of this year’s Christmas Season!
This weekend, we arrive at one of the most favorite Christian celebrations of the Christmas Season and of the entire year— we arrive now at the celebration of the Lord’s Epiphany and the visit of the three wise men!  It has long been an event that countless disciples and others have appreciated because of the Gospel accounts as well as its significance.
In the Epiphany, Jesus is seen as the light of all peoples within and beyond the people of Israel.  As God’s Son, he has come to all humanity to bring the Divine Life and Light of the Almighty!  Also, not only is Jesus the light of the entire world, Epiphany also shows the testimony which even the stars of heaven and the elites of humanity gave to the birth of the Messiah and Christ.  May the Lord be your light always, and may you also give testimony to Jesus!
                                                                —Father Jim Torquato

RCIA NEWS—WELCOME TAMMI!
The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is the process through which adults enter the Catholic Church.  On Saturday, January 9, at the 5:00pm Liturgy, Miss Tammi DeMauro will participate in the Rite of Acceptance in the Order of Catechumens.
Following a time of Inquiry, Tammi will now enter into a formal relationship with the Church and our parish.  Joining the Catechumenate and its apprenticeship in Christian living,  Tammi will be guided by our RCIA team and pastor as she begins her participation in our parish, in our formation and service, and in our prayer together.  You’re welcome to meet Tammi.   Please join us on January 9 at our 5:00pm Liturgy for the Rite of Acceptance!

OUR CATHEDRAL HOLY DOOR FOR THE YEAR OF MERCY
The Holy Doors for any Holy Year are destinations for Catholic pilgrims as they travel more deeply into the divine life of God.  Here in Pittsburgh,  Bishop David Zubik has opened our Holy Door at Saint Paul Cathedral.  All our members and our families are most welcome to make this Diocesan Holy Door a pilgrimage destination during the next twelve months!   You’ll be grateful you did!

THANKS TO ALL FOR MAKING THIS A JOYFUL CHRISTMAS SEASON AND NEW YEAR!
Our celebrations of Christmas and the Christmas Season are very special events every year!  Thanks to the efforts of our parish members and families as well as our parish staff, our Christmas Liturgies are prayerful and memorable each year!
Many thanks once again are extended to: our choir members and cantors and musicians, our music director, our lectors and Communion ministers, our servers and ushers, our collection crew and collection counters, our church decorators, our parish staff and our custodial staff, and all those who’ve been helpful this year!
We hope that everyone has enjoyed a joyful and prayerful Christmas celebration here in our parish.  Best wishes for this holy season, and best wishes for a good and blessed New Year 2016!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GIVING TREE GENEROSITY AND GIFTS!
Once again, thank you very much for all of your gifts and generosity in our annual Giving Tree effort!  Your goodness has been of benefit to many children, young people, and families both here and in nations that need tremendous help from us.
Again, thank you very much!  Your generosity has brought joy and benefits to many this Christmas!  May your Christmas be joyful with the same joy that you’ve given to many others this year!

The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be held worldwide this January 18 to January 25.  Join us in praying that all Christians become united in our faith and life so that we may lead many to Jesus!

WHERE WE ARE THIS YEAR AS A PARISH
We have 1216 families in Saint Scholastica Parish and a total membership of 2835 individuals.  Each Sunday, we have an average of 770 adults and children participating in our Liturgies.  On average,  27% of our parish members participate in our Sunday worship.  Hopefully, we’ll grow in the coming years.  Please invite others to join us each weekend!

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS!
Will you be making any New Year’s Resolutions?  If so, will you also be making spiritual resolutions?  Will you try to read the Gospels and the Bible more?  Will you come to the Liturgy every Sunday?  Will you give more time to the Lord and spend more time in silent prayer?  Think about it, and make your resolution now!

Again, thanks for helping to clean up our church after (and before)  each weekend Liturgy.  We’re all very grateful for your care and your help!

Please remember Saint Scholastica Parish in your final plans and your will.  Thank you very much!
