A NOTE FROM FATHER TORQUATO
Of course, the Holy Spirit of God is more than a beautiful dove!   In the Gospels, the Holy Spirit is seen in the form of a white dove.  Yet, in our Christian faith, the Spirit of God is understood to be the unseen Third Person of God who is the Divine Love shared between God the Father and God the Son.
This Divine Love and Spirit shared between Father and Son is a Person unto itself who is essential to the Holy Trinity.  Through Christ Jesus, the Spirit of God is now also shared with the Church so that God will always be present to the Lord’s disciples and will fill us with divine life and love and inspiration.
It was an amazing blessing that Jesus came into the world.  It’s also an amazing blessing the Holy Spirit has been with the Church for 20 centuries.  May we be truly grateful, and may we remain close to the Lord and to the Holy Spirit always.  God bless!
                                                                —Father Jim Torquato

HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS YEAR
On Mission for the Church Alive!  is our Diocese’s effort to plan ahead and to realign our parish communities to serve future generations.
In 2018, almost all parishes will be reconfigured in terms of administration.  Our own local grouping includes Saint Scholastica Parish, Saint Joseph Parish, Saint Juan Diego Parish, and All Saints Parish.  Following discussions and work in 2016 and 2017, we’ll embark in 2018 on a renewed mission as a new Catholic community!    Please participate, and please pray for success in our local area!

OUR 2016 PARISH SHARE CAMPAIGN
Our 2016 Diocesan Parish Share Campaign is collecting the money to fund our Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh.  Our own Parish Share Campaign assessment for 2016 is $74,497.   Each of our households is asked to pledge and contribute  $250 or more  as in past years.
Your generous donations provide the financial support needed for the work of Bishop David Zubik, for all his staff, and for the numerous efforts that benefit all the people of our Diocesan Church.  Please help us to meet our goal this year!

CELEBRATING ASCENSION THURSDAY!
Every year, on the fortieth day of the Easter Season, we remember and celebrate the Day of the Lord’s Ascension to Heaven!   Jesus’ return to the Father was the amazing event that concluded the Lord’s years on earth and which then began the mission given to all the Lord’s disciples to transform the world into the Kingdom of God.
In our region of the country, we still celebrate the Ascension on Thursday, and we’ll do so this coming Thursday, May 5 at our 8:30am Liturgy, at a 12 Noon Liturgy, and at a 7:00pm Liturgy.   Please mark your family calendar and join us in our worship on the Holy Day of the Ascension this Thursday!

PREPARING FOR MOTHERS DAY!
Next Sunday, May 8, our nation will once again observe and celebrate Mothers Day as we thank and give tribute to all our moms, grandmothers, stepmothers, expectant mothers, adoptive mothers, godmothers, foster mothers, and all women.  May all our moms and all women be blessed, and may we thank them with tremendous and joyful gratitude!

LET US PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER
Our Aquinas Guild has reestablished a Ministry of Prayer for our parish members and families.  If you’d like prayers offered,  OR  if you’d also like to be a person or family who prays for others, please sign up underneath the video screen in the main church entrance.  Also, you may contact the coordinators of this ministry at prayerlist@saintscholastica. com.  Thank you, and God bless you!

NEW A.E.D. DEFIBRILLATORS/ FIRST AID KITS
Our parish has recently leased SIX new AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillators) for our parish campus.  Provided by Cintas, these new AEDs are in the main church entrance, the parish hall, the ministry center, each of our two school buildings, and the gymnasium.  They are for use in the event of a cardiac emergency along with CPR.  In addition to the medical professionals present at our Liturgies, we’ll be scheduling CPR training in the near future for adults willing to assist with this life-saving equipment.
Each AED is designed to be easy to use.  Each cabinet also has an alarm to indicate that the door has been opened.
In addition, a full First Aid Center is now located in the parish hall, and basic first aid kits have been added to the ministry center, the gymnasium kitchen, the cafeteria, and both school buildings.  Each AED and First Aid cabinet/kit will be checked monthly and stocked by Cintas staff.  Hopefully, these additions to our facilities will benefit our parish community whenever needed.
