A NOTE FROM FATHER TORQUATO
Following the Resurrection and the Birth of the Lord Jesus, the Transfiguration is among the most amazing and most favorite events in the life of Jesus!   What an extraordinary event it must have been for Jesus and for the Apostles as well to see the glory of God manifested in Jesus and to hear the witness given to Jesus by God the Father and by Moses and Elijah, representing the Law and the Prophets of the Old Testament!
Hopefully, the event of the Lord’s glorious Transfiguration also inspires us to believe in Jesus the Christ!  This event was not meant only for the personal and private benefit of Peter, James, and John.  Rather, through these Apostles, all of Jesus’ disciples and all humanity are meant to hear this good news and come to true and abiding faith in Christ the Lord.
May we recognize how good is the news about Jesus that has been given us.   May we continue to place our faith in him and know how wonderful it is for us to share the Lord’s company and life.  One day, may we come to the radiant glory of the Lord that will be ours.  God bless!
                                                                                    —Father Jim Torquato

OUR 2017 PARISH SHARE CAMPAIGN
Each year, your generosity to Bishop David Zubik and the operations and programs of our Catholic Diocese are greatly appreciated!   Your financial support of the Diocese is also very much needed.
As such, we’re beginning our 2017 Parish Share Campaign to collect and remit to our Central Diocesan  Administration the amount required of us this year.  Based on last year’s donations to our parish, we are asked to raise $69,950 before January 2018.  This amount is 17.5% of our own parish’s income last year.  As always, we’re asked to collect this amount to support the Diocese.
As we’ve done for the past 40 years, you received in the mail an information letter and brochure along with a donation or pledge card.  We ask every parish member or household to donate or pledge $250 once again.  If you can contribute more ($300, $500, $1000, or even $2000), your generosity will be greatly helpful and much appreciated.
All funds received beyond our $69,950 goal will remain with our parish for our own operating budget.   Again, thank you very much for your support as we begin our 2017 Parish Share Campaign.  The Bishop, all our pastors, and the entire Diocese of Pittsburgh appreciate your goodness and support.  God bless!

THREE HOURS FOR RECONCILIATION THIS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15, 6:00-9:00PM
On Wednesday, March 15, from 6:00pm until 9:00pm, every parish in the Diocese will make the Sacrament of Reconciliation available for parish members and families.  Please make use of this opportunity to receive the Lord’s sacramental mercy and forgiveness, especially if it’s been a long time!  Prepare in advance — examine your conscience!

THE SEASON OF LENT
Lent should be a time of additional prayer at home and in church.  Join us for the weekday morning Liturgies.  Come on Fridays for the Women’s Stations of the Cross at 12 noon or the parish Stations at 7:00pm.
Lent should also be a time of penance, fasting, spiritual self-discipline, contrition for our sins, and sacramental Reconciliation.  Likewise, Lent should be a season of increased charity at home, in our community, and toward the needy and poor.
Make plans now for the 40 days of Lent!   May all of us draw closer to Jesus in the holy weeks ahead, and may we be even better and more faithful disciples of Christ this coming Easter!

SHARE THE GOOD NEWS WITH YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN
Do you read with your children and/ or your grandchildren on a daily basis?  Are you always looking for good things to share with them?  Please read the Four Gospels or a Catholic Catechism with them.   Consider reading this bulletin (and its weekly reflections and information) as well as the Pittsburgh Catholic  with your kids and grandkids as well.  It’s good to begin these good practices at a young age!

CONTINUING OUR DIOCESAN CAMPAIGN
As you remember from 2013, in our Diocesan Campaign for the Church Alive,  Bishop David Zubik asked for the support of all Church members and families to strengthen the life of our diocesan Church.  So far, our parish members and families have generously contributed $1,166,609 of your pledges of $1,782,887.   Please fulfill your pledges so that, with the Lord’s grace and support and YOUR help, we’ll always remain the Church Alive!

Jesus is the Promised One of God!
For 2000 years now, our ancestors in the Church and we ourselves have believed and professed that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ, the Messiah and Savior promised to Israel and to the world. Even today, we still place our faith in the Lord Jesus, and we believe the witness and testimony given to him by his followers all these years!

Our Saint Scholastica Parish Mission is to continue the work of Christ together as a faith community, through the celebration of the Sacraments, living spiritually in the world, and working to be caring members of the community.  As committed Catholics, we are sent to bear the Light of Christ to transform the world by our devotion, service and witness.
